The Biofuel Marketplace project will create a web-based biofuel marketplace in order to provide a forum where Europe’s biofuel stakeholders can promote their technologies, exchange ideas, sell and buy biofuel products, disseminate results of national, international and European research activities and raise awareness of the public and the professional community.
The foundations of the Marketplace will be established by a series of assessment work carried out at European level establishing the background for the market-based management of alternative motor fuels, resulting in a robust and cost effective solution for reducing European dependency on conventional fuels.
Using specifically designed audit forms the proposers intend to use the results from different European (FP5, FP6, FP7, ALTENER, etc.) and national projects as the basis for creating an initial inventory of commercially viable biofuel technologies, products, patents and services. Recent European advances, projects, products, results and patents will be screened at strategic, management and technological levels and the commercially feasible results of these earlier European initiatives will be fed into the Biofuel Marketplace to be made available for all European stakeholders through the project website.
The project will also include coordinated marketing campaigns and dissemination activities in order to promote the Marketplace and the results from technology and demonstration projects. Promotional and dissemination activities will be carried out in the context of the relevant EU policy and legislative measures. The action will explicitly address the vital issue of finances – also in respect to the EU Structural Funds and the Common Agricultural Policy with regards to energy crops.
Once the foundations of the Marketplace are well-established and proper stakeholder involvement is assured a highly sophisticated and full-featured website will be launched for the exploitation of biofuel products and technologies. The website will utilise recent on-line e-business and e-brokerage business models and will integrate a set of advanced facilities (databanks, user-accounts, studies and legal assistance, newsletters) for the promotion of actual commerce of biofuel products and technologies.
The proposed project is SME-driven, and as such it is characterised by a need for long-term sustainability and innovative commercial solutions. It is the Consortium members’ commitment that by the end of the third year the Biofuel Marketplace will be self-sustainable financed by industrial advertisers and commissions paid after the trading and commercial application of biofuel products and technology. Such virtual marketplace will not only boost interest for biofuels but it will also increase the „acceptability” biofuels as a conventional trading commodity, a most important step for actual commercial exploitation and improvement of alternative fuel supply chains.
